Late last year, I began building out a workshop in my garage. Well, my roommates’ garage, to be exact. I’ve built a couple of workbenches and amassed quite a few tools, all for woodworking and silversmithing.
Winter was hell in Ohio.
But I’m back in the shop now, and in good time, too. My roommate asked me to make his wedding band, and he is getting married in four days.
The whole thing took me longer than it should have. I had engraved their initials on the inside of the band, but accidentally buffed them out. But I’m new to this craft, and I’m honored to have such a wonderful opportunity to learn while giving a friend something he will (hopefully) treasure for years to come.
As a side tangent, while I was taking these pictures, the wind was so bad there were power outages across the city. Of course, the wind blew the freshly polished ring off the porch and into a hole beneath the house.
The glimmer of light, which also looks to be nothing at all, is the ring. This crack goes into the foundation of the house, but luckily I retrieved the ring with a bent wire. With silver prices these days, that would’ve been a big loss.
